LAGOA DO ABAETÉ, NOVEMBER 4TH 2001
IN THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND, MALE HEGEMONY IS VERY BIGGER IN SALVADOR

The november 4th of 2001 was a sunday which made part of a holiday weekend initiated in the friday 2nd, All Soul's Day.

In the Abaeté's Park, localized around the Abaeté's Lagoon, at the smalltown of Itapuan, in Salvador, Bahia, there was the bigger hegemony of males between the people present there, showing that, in the Salvador's population, the men are the most, opposite to presumably official informations from governamental and touristic institutions.

The medium proportion of each men to every women in Abaeté, in november 4th, was estimated in 15 males to every one woman, as it happens approximatelly in the people with 15 to 50 years-old living in Salvador.

The male hegemony, only in Abaeté, is astonishing for some important details. Being november 4th a sunday inside the holiday weekend and, if it would be according to the presumably official informations, the most of men is at the Salvador "just in passing", it would be probable that the most of men, in the traditional holiday of All Souls's Day, should have to go to the Bahia inner cities, suggesting a supposed woman majority in the places like Abaeté. Nevertheless, the men's bigger majority stayed at the capital, comproving the male hegemony in the population of Salvador.

So, if in a traditional holiday the men from Salvador went not to inner cities - most of them was born in the interior of Bahia, but now they live in the capital - , and if the female presence in the event like Abaeté is inexpressive before the men, also considering that this event is free, the myth that Salvador is an easy place to conquer a woman to love is very distant from the reality.
