Em 21 de março de 1938, durante a invasão de sua casa pelas tropas nazistas, Sigmund Freud escreveu uma carta a Karl Weissmann , psicanalista austríaco naturalizado brasileiro, residente em Belo Horizonte e no Rio de Janeiro.

Ernest Jones,  biógrafo oficial de Freud,  reproduziu a carta em seu livro "The Life and Works of Sigmund Freud" (New York: Basic Books, 1957, p.466). 

Esta carta atravessou o tempo e aparece-nos agora com a letra de Freud, em meio aos antecedentes da IIª Guerra Mundial, com o carimbo da Gestapo em seu envelope, apreendida diretamente das mãos da filha de Freud, Ana, detida pela Gestapo.

ABOUT THE LETTER  

Ernest Jones, the biographer of Sigmund Freud, inserted-in his well-know "The Life and Works of Sigmund Freud"- a copy of a letter written by Dr. Freud to another Austrian psychoanalyst, Prof. Karl Weissman, who had been living in Brazil at that time. That manuscript - despite being a single one - has historical relevance. Apart from the fact of being handwritten by the great psychoanalyst himself it has other important aspects that should be considered:

1)This letter has the date of march 21st, 1938, a week after the invasion of Austria by the nazi troops. It is one of the few letters written during this difficult period by Dr.Freud.

2)The postage seal date is March 22nd, 1938.This day happens to be the san day in which nazi military broke into Freud's house. Anna Freud was arrested by the Gestapo in this very same day.

3)This letter was posted in Wein and was oponed and read by nazi censors according to a stamp mark on the envelope.
